A troubled teenager in troubled times The answer to their prayers…Basket Ball Shoot Minnie Shoot, a feature film, is based on a true story and inspired by the book written by Happy Jack Feder. It is the story of basketball’s First World Champions; the 1904 Fort Shaw Montana Indian girls basketball team. It follows the improbable journey of Shoshone teenager Minnie Burton. It is the story of her vision and her struggle to bring pride back to her people through a new game called basket ball. From the dreary dead end setting of an early 20th century Indian reservation to the Majestic Spectacle of the “World’s Greatest Fair,” follow Minnie on her quest to fulfill her vision and bring pride and respect to her people. Experience her emotional father-daughter exit off the reservation and her struggle as the new girl at Fort Shaw Indian School. See her transition from a reluctant participant in a new game to the team leader and namesake of a popular chant by the locals (“Shoot Minnie Shoot”). Watch as she is teased and ridiculed for her reoccurring dream and forthcoming vision. Feel the pressure of playing for a coach who is compelled by past experiences and his enthusiasm for the game. Witness her struggle with the stress of learning the white man’s ways while still trying to maintain her native heritage. And all of this in addition to the angst of young love. Be there as Minnie and the team arrive at the young USA’s coming out party, the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. Feel her excitement as she stares at magnificent buildings and experiences incredible new technology, and share in the emotional tug of war as she discovers that she and her teammates are not just guests, but living exhibits. Learn with Minnie as she stands with one foot in the past and one foot in the future. Finally, experience the bliss as Minnie fulfills her dreams and visions; the final game and the crowning of the first World Champions of Basket Ball. This story is at once improbable and true. The amazing accomplishments of these brave and determined girls are an inspiration to all races. “Shoot Minnie Shoot” is in development. A script has been completed and the production is currently looking to secure funding.
